ABC News is running an article on their site about the choking game, which is a popular search term on this site. The article doesn’t break any new ground, but it does a decent job of providing an overview to the lay public. What I liked about the article, though, was the mention of an upcoming study being published in the journal Pediatrics.
When I went to the AAP website, I found that they were offering a free Physician’s Perspective article on the choking game. You can find that here (PDF). The research article won’t be available until next month, but there’s some other quality information out there that might be useful if you’re interested in the topic:
- Unintentional Strangulation Deaths from the “Choking Game” Among Youths Aged 6–19 Years — United States, 1995–2007
- The Choking Game Can Be Deadly (Podcast), CDC
- The Choking Game and YouTube: A Dangerous Combination (abstract)
As I mentioned, this is one of the most commonly searched terms on the FHO site. You can revisit the original posts on the topic here and here.
