Reader Request: 10 Things About Me

One of our lovely Australian readers sent me an email that said, in part, “Love the 10 Things posts you have done in the past. How about 10 Things about you, so your readers can get to know you a bit better? And no referring us to the About or FAQ pages, please…” Okay, then–it’s snowing outside and I’m looking for a reason to take a break from writing that doesn’t involve going for a run, so I’ll take that assignment:

For better or worse, here are 10 things you might not know about me:

1. There’s nothing I’d rather do when I’m off the road than cook. And there’s nothing I’d rather do when I’m on the road than eat. Whole trips have been planned around the restaurants I will visit.
2. I’m a fan of music, but my tastes lean loud and rough. Think metal and punk rock. I have the requisite ink that goes with it, a fact many, many people find surprising.
3. I have been with my partner for 18 years as of last week. Can never remember exactly how many years we’ve actually been married, though.
4. I am the only daughter of a heart surgeon. I come by the Type A personality honestly.
5. I do not want to see through the liquids I drink. I like diet coke, red wine, and a pint of black and tan. If it’s lighter than a urine sample, it better be bubbly and French.
6. My first semester of nursing school, one of my professors took me aside and told me I should reconsider my decision to be a nurse. That I wasn’t cut out to be one and probably wouldn’t successfully get through nursing school. That same professor now makes her living teaching people how to mentor. I love the way the universe works.
7. I am painfully and pathologically shy in non-professional situations. My best role when I’m out in public with single friends is as their socially awkward wingman.
8. I am a fan of the well-played hockey game. I don’t even care who’s playing, but if I have to choose a team, it will be the Sabres or the Pens. It will NOT be the Red Wings, ever.
9. I love the idea of the 6 word memoir and think everyone should create his or her own. If you don’t yet have one, feel free to use mine: “That’s Dr. Bitch to you, a**hole”.
10. There is nowhere I’d rather be than the Colorado Rockies. Someday I will split my time between Eagle County and the CLE.
