Vera Institute of Justice is offering a webinar on January 17th as part of their Accessing Safety Initiative, which “promotes collaborations between disability and victim service organizations and enhances organizational capacity to serve Deaf survivors and survivors with disabilities”. The session, Mandatory Reporting and Confidentiality, will take place from 3-4:30 pm ET.
From the site:
Understanding the mandatory reporting requirements governing your work with survivors with disabilities and Deaf survivors can often seem nearly impossible. The language of each law varies from state to state and can lend itself to a wide range of interpretation. Many service providers find themselves struggling to answer even the most basic questions about their responsibilities: Who is a vulnerable adult? How broad is the term “disability”? What is your due diligence for collecting reportable information? What will the response be once the report is made? Will the report help or harm the survivor with a disability? How you answer these questions depends largely on your unique experiences with mandated reporting and the systems that respond to that report.
