Update

In the 2 weeks this site has been up and running, almost a thousand hits have been recorded and many of you now subscribe. Looking at the site stats, it’s clear that vicarious trauma, bioterrorism and sexual assault are the most popular topics so far. If there is information you are looking for, please feel free to post a comment asking for it. I have a wide variety of sources I cull from and receive many email updates that feed this site. I’m happy to search for special requests. However, your fellow readers may also know where to find some of that information, so it’s always worth a post. Additionally, if you have information you think would be appropriate, please send it on to me (jenifer.markowitz@gmail.com) and I will get it up on the site.

In the coming weeks, I will be adding information to the site in a new series that focuses on  creating your own online offerings. Stay tuned!

Grant Writing

Many of you are looking to grants to help support and grow your programs. For my money, the Foundation Center is one of the best resources out there for grant seekers, with an online library, information about a large number of funders, and brick and mortar locations in 5 cities around the US. And now, they are offering webinars on key topics like basic proposal writing, which used to only be available in the form of live classes.

Stalking: Real Fear, Real Crime

In honor of Stalking Awareness Month, one more post on the subject. Stalking: Real Fear, Real Crime is a fantastic collaboration between Lifetime Television, the National Center for Victims of Crime, and LMNO Productions. Although it was originally produced for law enforcement, I think it’s incredibly useful for healthcare providers and other disciplines, as well (I use it as part of several courses I teach). Total run time is 18 minutes and it’s free to access.

Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Virtual Practicum

For those of you who have not yet heard, the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Virtual Practicum is available from IAFN. The DVD itself is only $25; if you would like to purchase CEUs for it, as well (12.5 awarded at completion), the cost is $90 (price includes DVD). Because more than one user is able to complete the practicum on a single DVD, members of IAFN can buy CEUs alone; however they must contact the IAFN home office to do so (410-626-7805). CMEs are also available for physicians (12) through Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for an additional $60.

For those of you who teach sexual assault content, such as SANE-SART courses, this is also an excellent tool for supplementing lectures and adding additional content (such as survivors’ voices) into the offering.
